This space is open to EVERY discipline, as long as it's legal. You don't need to be a software, iPhone app dude, etc. (But it wouldn't hurt!)
- Whiteboards, flip charts, projector, all the groovy presentation stuff to impress.
- This space is NOT for some: it's a little more industrial than most, the neighborhood is becoming quite nice, (becoming), and we are prone to occasional marshmallow wars that can get pretty heated and there have been know to be sticky casualties. BUT, we can say that this is a serious place when you want it and need it to be. Want to chillax and play X Box? yeah. Want to talk to the people across the room about what it's like to weld 30' tall iron sculptures? yeah. Want to get a lesson (for good beer) on how to solve a problem in Flash Action Script that would make most designers tell you to pound it? It can all happen here. It's your space man. We just enable you. You still have to do the brain thing...***
- Lastly, it's AFFORDABLE. Sure, you can shell out up to about $450 - 650 for a desk in places in the city that are arguably awesome and it's still a deal. Here you get some real Oakland smack down value. We are their tatted little slightly dirty brother in the East Bay. That does not mean we are not serious entrepreneurs. It just means we have a certain style when we light things on fire.
Where we are at as of September 1, 2010:
Well, we have only 2 years or so to go before the world ends, so we are busy! Burning Man is over, now it's time to take action! Here is where we are now:
Build Out. We are swinging hammers every day to finish the space. To YOU, this means that you can participate! If you want some space here, come and see us. We will chat about it. Why? We will build it to suit you, that's why! If you need a paint booth, green screen walls, you name it, you can tell us NOW and move in when we finish your space. You can also donate time and/or materials to the space in exchange for fees! Turn that 'extra' drywall or carpet, windows, etc into hard loot by donating to the project. We need your good, clean and ready to use items. Come by and see me! Ask for gadget.
Pricing for this outlet will be determined soon.
* This means that there are reasonable limits for your account. If you need to print out Wikipedia, let's chat about that first, huh?
** Very. We also stock highly caffeinated items like Red Bull, et al for just over cost, and lots of it.
***You cannot live here.
Chris is looking for a small workspace near Lake Merritt or Downtown Oakland. I'm working on my dissertation and need a space other than the local cafe. This would be a small, quiet space large enough for a desk and a bookshelf (or some other space where I can store books securely) that's quiet and has at least one power outlet for a laptop. Internet access is unnecessary. Something like a cubicle, a shared space or even a small, private office would be great. I'd like to pay no more than $100-150/month. If you have a space that would work, please contact me here. Thank you!
