The Industry Lab is an artful co-working space in Inman Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Inhabiting the 5,500-square-foot fourth floor of a lovely brick building with wood floors and lots of windows, it’s a place for artists, engineers, scientists, and designers to reside in proximity in the service of creating beautiful things. We are freelancers, groups, startups, and studios. We collaborate, hold events, and have drinks here and there too.
Residency: Each full-time resident at Industry Lab pays a standard, monthly fee for a large chunk of permanent space. There are no additional costs. Access is 24/7/365. There is no specific square-footage allotment, instead we zone each room for a certain number of residents. Currently suite-A is a 1000-square-foot space with 8 residents. What you do with your space is up to you and the people around you, everything is possible and all is socially mediated. Want to play loud music? Ask your neighbors if it's okay. Want to use some extra space to build something big? Just ask. Residency is curated. We are building a community, not just selling office space.
Shared Facilities: Every Industry Lab resident can partake in the shared services. We have a few parking spaces, fast Internet, good water, and weekly cleaning service. We have a shared conference room that you can book as needed. We have a freight elevator and a machine shop.
To learn about renting space with us, check our about page. Here’s a list of our residents. And, if you want to drop us a line, go ahead and make contact.

ka-POW-er (spaces) Back Bay - Creative Coworking Space
The focus of ka-POW-er (spaces) is effective creativity. As Scott Belsky so aptly puts it, "It's not about ideas. It's about making ideas happen." Our Coworking space is aimed squarely at designers, writers, art director/copywriter teams, filmmakers, creative freelancers, film & video editors, producers and other Makers who have a "bias to action". Our purpose is to gather like-minded creatives who personify our three-fold goal to inspire, connect, and equip members of Boston's Creative Economy; a creative business incubator where we all contribute to one another's success.
We envision a colorful, simple, clutter-free space, with a mix of open collaborative areas and enclosed rooms. We envision a shared library, a screening room, a brainstorming room, and perhaps a Wii. We envision a space that is friendly to mature, artistic children who accompany their parents from time-to-time. We envision after-hours networking events, movie nights, free seminars, weekly community lunches, and open ideation sessions. We envision a lively mix of some of the smartest, most interesting, creative, talented, and driven people, who want to make their mark on the city of Boston and the world. After all, Coworking is about PEOPLE, not facilities and specifications.
The "Catalyst" of ka-POW-er (spaces) is Marc L. Grubb, Owner/Creative Systems Architect of fusion IT, soon to be ka-POW-er!.
We consider ka-POW-er (spaces) a long-term goal. In the meantime, if you are a creative who embodies our values, by all means, join our thriving Meetup Group!

Misc. Notes
Gregor's old Qingping idea
Idea: providing monitors for rent
My friend John Sequeira pointed out that he just got a sweet dual monitor setup, which made working on just the laptop less attractive to him ;)
|-I've been telling plenty of people within the past few weeks that dual monitors offer huge productivity boosts[NY Times link, I suggest BugMeNot]. Most laptops have video cards that support dual monitors, so if nothing else, it's possible that a coworking facility could offer the best of both worlds by providing monitors to plug into. CRT monitors can usually be cheaply acquired, would it be difficult to build housing for them that matches the decor of the rest of the coffeehouse to hold them?
Hardware resellers for TigerDirect can usually score 17" or 19" flat screen monitors for just over $100 each -- an investment in 10-20 would add a substantial boost in productivity and "cool factor" for a small up front investment that can be depreciated out. You could also just offer those monitors as a Premium membership perk or something to recoup cost and differentiate levels of support.
